Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Gabriel Heinze could soon be heading for the Old Trafford exit door after indicating his desire to call time on his Reds' career.

The Argentine defender has been linked with moves to Real Madrid and Liverpool in recent weeks and the United boss revealed the defender is almost certain to leave.

"Gaby's agent has advised us that he wants to move on," explained Sir Alex at a press conference in Tokyo. "I am not too sure about that and we do not have a concrete offer from any particular club.

"But there is some momentum regarding the player's next move in terms of through his agent, even if nothing is close at this moment in time."

Heinze was on the losing side in the Copa America final on Sunday as Argentina went down 3-0 to Brazil.
